Celtic Sea Trout Results
Anglers in Ireland claim top prizes
Two Irish anglers, Martin McKenny from the River Dee Co. Louth and Brian McShane from the Castletown River Co. Louth, were the top sea trout samplers for the Celtic Sea Trout Project in 2011.
Prizes will be presented by Minister Fergus O’Dowd at an Inland Fisheries Ireland’ Fisheries Awareness Week’ event on May 20th, 2012 in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan, Co. Meath .
Martin provided the most sets of sea trout scales from fish he caught on rod-and line in his favorite river the Dee. Virtually all fish were returned alive after the small sample of scales had been taken.
Congratulating all the Irish winners, Minister O Dowd stated ‘I commend these anglers and their efforts in supporting the Celtic Sea Trout Project. The success of the project is assured with such cooperation from the winning anglers and all participating anglers who have contributed so much to the project .’

Projects:
Over the years the Association has embarked on numerous projects. Most Noteable of those are the ones relating to enabling access for Anglers and enhancement and development of salmonoid spawning grounds
The White River Instream Enhancement Programme, in Partnership with Louth Leader and Inland Fisheries Ireland.
The White River enhancement programme was initiated in 2006. Through funding from the Louth Leader Programme, now the Louth Leader Partnership, funding was secured for the first phase & second Phases of the programme by the Dee and Glyde Angling Development Association. The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board provided advice on the proposed works.
The White river was not reaching its true potential as a salmonid (salmon and trout) river prior to the improvement works. The White River is the main tributary of the River Dee and is hugely important to this main river as a spawning and nursery area. In particular, it is important to the resident sea trout population of the River Dee, as these fish tend to use the first tributary of the main river to spawn. Historically there was a serious water quality issue with the White River. The main source of these problems was the antiquated sewage treatment plant for the town of Dunleer. This plant was upgraded before the habitat Enhancement Programme was started.
